VOLUME 8 SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW OPEN

The Awakening Magazine is an independent art publication showcasing artists from Ventura County and beyond.

This magazine is built through open submissions and instinctive curation. Each volume becomes a record of the artists, ideas, and moments that shape our time.

Submissions are open to all mediums, genres, and artistic practices. We welcome any and all creative expressions.

SUBMISSION PROCESS

  • Only one entry per artist

  • Submissions open May 24 and close June 12

  • Selected artists will be notified in July

  • Artists can choose between two submission options:

  1. Free submission includes only 1 artwork submission.

  2. Expanded submission ($5) includes up to 3 artworks submissions.

    • The expanded submission is optional and helps support the printing of free community copies (mini-zines), exhibitions, and future volumes

EXHIBITION & RELEASE EVENT

  • Volume 8 releases September 4th with a First Friday opening and a month-long exhibition at Chapter 30 in Oxnard, CA.

  • Selected artists will be invited to exhibit their work.

  • Work included in the exhibition requires a $5 contribution per piece to help cover installation and event costs.

  • If opted in, work sold during the exhibition will follow a 70/30 split (artist/gallery).

LAYOUT FOR VOLUME 8

  • This volume will feature a salon-style layout.

  • Some artists may receive a full page, while others may be grouped with complementary works.

IMAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Maximum file size: 10MB per image

  • 300 DPI recommended

  • Images should be cropped and presentation-ready

  • Avoid distracting shadows or poor lighting

Submissions will always remain open and accessible. This system allows us to grow while keeping that core intact.
