Volume 1

The Awakening began with conversations.
Late night walks around the pier, talking about art and its place in everyday life.

The question kept coming up:
How do we all know so many different local artists, do we think we could connect them?

That question became the starting point.

Volume 1 was our first attempt at answering it, a submission-based magazine that acted as a gateway into each other’s work. We started small, working with a select group of artists to bring the idea to life.

It wasn’t a traditional magazine. It was closer to a zine.
A print your own experience that invited people to engage with it directly, to assemble it, to color in it, and to make it their own.

At this stage, The Awakening was still becoming what it is now.
Still forming. Still discovering its purpose.
